"Vegetarian or Not Vegetarian"

Its always a choice whether one wants to stay a meat eater or become a vegetarian or a vegan, we are all endowed with that choice alone. All humans house animal qualities within, to help in eradicating these low qualities and purify the mind one must give up the eating of “meat.” The vibration of the animal is in this type of food and it does affect the mind as well as hinders our progression. But again, it does come down to ones personal choice. If we are wanting to make progress then I suggest you meditate on looking into the reason of (why,) one should avoid the eating of meat. So really, Yes, YOU are what you eat.
Also, don’t forget the words of Jesus and other great Ones who came to teach humanity that “The Body Of Man Is The Temple Of God.” If we are wanting to come closer to God in doing worship to Him, and we know that God resides in the temple of our body, then why would anyone want to dirty it by being disrespectful through the wrong types of food and drink. In hindsight, its because we (western people) have all been conditioned in doing so; this is how we have been brought up. But it seems in what I’ve just read, meet eaters is present in all nationalities all over the world not only in western peoples.
Only when God witnesses man taking the rightful steps forward in keeping “His” temple clean (within) and offering worship to Him through meditation and prayer and by doing good deeds, will God then reveal Himself and lead that one quicker along the path towards Realisation of his True-Self. I know some who are vegetarians, and when I ask them the reason why they became vegetarians, they usually respond by giving all the wrong reasons.
I have always felt a disappointment when hearing this. You see, I am always waiting to hear the right reasons as this would then lead into higher talks. The majority of people will learn one day that animals also have their own karma to live, and that they to like us “evolve.” The same for all living things, even the earth herself evolves, she goes through different ages (yuga’s). If and when one is serious about wanting to tread the spiritual path and come closer to God, one will in time discover through meditation the “truth” of all life and the purpose it holds.
But please don’t get me wrong I once myself was a meat eater. Its just that one day we will be enlightened with this truth, and when it dawns we will see it as plain as the nose on our face along with many other things as well. This is our destiny, this is what happens when we begin to evolve, we become more spiritually attuned with life here and the other.
We start to discover things of truth, but we should never leave it there, we must “act” upon it, only by acting upon it will we then start to make headway, our journey along the path is then quickened through God’s grace. We then find ourselves coming closer and closer to God. Its only when we start to put a little effort into bettering ourselves that God then starts to lead us towards the discovery of many truths.
We begin to understand things with greater clarity than ever before, and sometimes it really shakes us violently from the inside out, only because it clashes with what we always took to be true. Many will not tolerate a truth other than their own, its because the foundations of their own belief structures are in threat of either being harmed or even destroyed. Structures which they have depended on for so long, and have taken to always be the truth.
What fights in holding on is the (ego,) it wont let loose of old things, old ways. Wipe the sleep from yours eye’s (the World) and behold all things will be revealed. The truth will then unravel itself before you. Jesus and others have all paid the price for telling the truth as we know it. You see, “in truth there is really only one truth, all the others a just stepping stones leading one to the discovery of the One Real Truth, God.
So, if anyone eats meat, its their choice and that should not be disrespected. What should be questioned though is how the animals are treated. There is (NO) love or spirituality in causing suffering to animals no matter what. The suffering one causes to any living thing is a vile act against God Himself, and great karma will be reaped. For plant life this is a different matter altogether, plants are not “Aware,” animals are. Anyway, this is my thoughts only.

Eating meat, fish or other non vegetarian items is individual choice. If we are a true follower of Bhagwan, then we must practice eating only vegetarian food as Bhagwan always preaches ahimsa (one of the five - satyam, dharma, shanthi, prema and ahimsa). He not only preaches but HE HIMSELF practices it when he refused to take food at his house and started taking food at Subbamma's house. Rather than discussing whether something is right or wrong, we must start analysing whether Bhagwan Baba likes it or not. If He likes, then it must be good for everyone of us. Else we must try not to do such things. I know lot of Muslim and Christian brothers have stopped taking non vegetarian food after they have started following Bhagwan even though Prophet Mohammed and Jesus Christ are not against it.

I agree ksc346, and I believe the world is beginning to come more aware of what type of food one should eat. They are also discovering that diseases are coming from consuming to much meat, even Health Specialists and experts are now advising that people should not eat so much meat, but to take in more fruit and vegetables instead.

Animals cannot express their thoughts to us and we choose to ignore their pain when we kill them. The soul has no form and the outer covering which is body can have small or big appearance. When we were born, we were very tiny, a fertilized egg in our mother's womb. We became a little bigger in time and then little more and saw that something was changing and we identified it as the real thing. However, the fact is that if someone shows me my image of body 50 years later, i will not be able to identify myself with it, or if someone digs a grave and brings my past life's body i will not even be able to identify myself with it. So, physical entity which we enter into is to carry out our tasks. The real and unchanging thing inside our body is our soul.
Even if it is small plant, a blade of grass, a beautiful flower, an ant, a street dog, your pet cat all have souls and do not want sufferings. Poultry birds, fishes, cattles do not want to die, they want to live too like us; their soul might not be able to express its most beautiful side because of influence of body, but let us realise this fact that every tiny creature deserves to live. We should live in harmony with nature around us. Even pests can be get rid of without the need to kill them irrationally. The pain suffered by creatures because of us make our soul heavier and we can never rise high. A heavier soul is earth bound, cannot see and realise truth, suffers without making attempt to come out those sufferings.
Being vegetarian is great, let us also develop compassion towards our near and dear ones, let us accept them the way they are. Let us love all creatures and on the fertile land of love all relationships grow so easily and are sustained on their own.
Peace and love. Om Sai Ram.

Sai Ram "Ashok."
I totally agree with you. In this material world there will always be others who have different opinions to ours, always, no matter how much proof one may offer.
The best thing anyone can do is do what's right ourselves and leave the rest to God.
Thank you for your reply.
