External renunciation is meaningless

if the soul remains fettered by internal shackles.

Sivam denotes auspiciousness. Hence the very form of Maheswara(the supreme God) is only auspiciousness. Also Shiva is easily satisfied by a small leaf(Bilva) and a little water and flowers that grow everywhere! He is known as "Asudhoshi", one who is pleased with little offerings which every one can afford. We need not spend enormous money and do costly ritual. Bathing the Shivalinga with little water will please Him. What really required is Love and Faith. Shirdi Baba is considered as the manifestation of Shiva. His pure devotee "Megha" used to walk miles to fetch the Bilwa leaves. Once Megaha wanted to perform Holy bath to his Shiva, who is Shirdi Saibaba! But Baba declined stating, "Oh, I am a Fakir, I have nothing to do with holy bath etc., But Megha persisted and he knew that Shirdi Baba is verily Shiva! At last Baba conceded to his strange request. Megha went to and fro for 23 miles to fetch water from the river and he had earlier asked Baba to remain ready. As soon as he reached the Masudi(Dwarakamai), he requested Baba to get seated for the holy bath. But Baba told him, Oh, Megaha, the head is the important limb and hence pour water on the head! While Baba is seated on the plank, Megha poured water with great reverence and faith chanting "Hare Gange" and poured water on the head and entire body! To his astonishment only Baba's head was drenched and the body has not become wet! Om Sri Sai Ram.
